Combining group exercises, discussions with policymakers and foreign policy officials, and visits to renowned D.C. institutions, Georgetown's Foreign Policy Immersion introduces you to the many components that guide and create U.S. foreign policy. Throughout your time in the program, you'll develop your critical thinking and interpretive skills while examining key international crises and world leaders' responses and policy choices in a global arena. You'll also analyze the factors that affect the decision-making process and the methods used to formulate and implement policies.
By the time you complete the program, you'll have a deeper understanding of American defense policy, the complexities of terrorism threats, the influence of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and think tanks, strategies for aid and democracy-building, and the formulation process of commerce and trade policies.
Learn from and engage with guest lecturers, including influential policymakers, leaders, Georgetown faculty, and foreign service professionals
Experience foreign policy through several off-site visits
Conduct case studies
Participate in simulation exercises and panel presentations
Program Format & Subject Areas
As a student in the Foreign Policy Immersion, you'll spend your time engaged in a combination of class sessions, field trips, hands-on workshops, group discussions, and extracurricular activities. Throughout the course of the program, you'll have the opportunity to explore the following subject areas:
State and USAID Policy
Think tanks and NGO Influence
ISIS and terrorism
Commerce and trade policy
This program gave me a new perspective on college that I never had up until this point. Georgetown is an amazing school in an amazing city, and this program showed me that.
The program offers so much–from the off-site visits to the daily lectures and the on campus activities. The lectures were interesting, meeting new people was great and the off-site visits were interactive and intriguing.
This is a course that I would definitely recommend as both Georgetown and the professors were very hands-on and provided a great pre-university experience.
