Our English Intensive College Prep Program prepares you for a successful transition into the U.S. college experience. Designed for non-native English speakers with low- or intermediate-level English fluency, our three-week program will help you develop and improve your English language skills.

You’ll master test-taking strategies for the TOEFL and IELTS tests while strengthening your skills in areas such as listening, grammar, reading, and writing. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to live on campus, interact with native English speakers, and experience an exciting preview of the U.S. college experience.

Program Format & Subject Areas

As a student in the English Intensive College Prep Program, you'll focus on TOEFL and IELTS test preparation while strengthening your skills in listening, grammar, reading, and writing. You’ll also hone your oral communication skills through immersion with native English-speaking peers and tailored instruction from Georgetown University faculty members. Throughout your time in the program, you’ll have the opportunity to visit area colleges and universities and explore the culture and landmarks of Washington, D.C.

  • English Writing for Academic Success

    In this course, you'll advance your writing capabilities while refining both your style and technique in preparation for standardized tests and the college classroom experience. You'll come out of the program with a compelling personal essay that you can use for your college applications as well as a blog documenting your visits to local colleges and universities during your time in the program.

  • Success for the USA College Classroom and Beyond

    Learn how to identify, research, and develop criteria to evaluate a portfolio of U.S. colleges and universities to find one that fits your needs. You'll also develop academic skills and techniques for success in a U.S. college classroom focused on spoken English. Throughout your time in the program, you'll give presentations, learn the importance of class discussion, and develop valuable interpersonal skills for group projects and relationships with professors, advisors, and classmates.

  • TOEFL & IELTS Test Prep

    Through comprehensive test preparation classes focused on speaking, listening, reading, and writing, you'll gain a personalized academic plan and individualized score reports to set you up for success with standardized language exams. At the end of the program, you'll be able to take home tools you can use to continue your test preparation efforts. We recommend that you plan to take the TOEFL and/or IELTS in the fall, as our instruction focuses more heavily on the content, format, and scoring structure of the tests.

    Alternatively, you can choose to take SAT Prep in place of TOEFL & IELTS Prep.
